WINDSOR MEATS CELEBRATES 80 YEARS OF SERVING LOCAL COMMUNITIES

In 2026, Windsor Meats is proudly celebrating 80 years of serving local communities — a milestone built not just on quality food, but on the countless moments shared around the table.


Windsor Meats was founded in 1946 by George Freeman on Main Street in Vancouver, rooted in a simple but enduring belief: offer quality meat, prepare it properly, and serve it with genuine care. A second location soon followed on Marine Drive in West Vancouver, and Windsor Meats quickly became a trusted neighbourhood butcher and a place families returned to week after week.


As the business evolved, that commitment never wavered. Several decades later, the West Vancouver location was sold to a North Shore family who continued the tradition of craftsmanship and pride. The Freeman family retained ownership of the original Main Street location, which still operates today as Windsor Quality Meats -- a living piece of Vancouver food history.


In the early 1990s, the Marine Drive store closed as the Caulfeild Village location opened, marking a new chapter for Windsor Meats. Then in 2005, the business entered its next era when Bett Prosperi-Porta acquired Windsor Meats and began thoughtfully expanding across the Lower Mainland. Under Bett’s leadership, Windsor Meats grew to multiple locations while remaining firmly grounded in the values that defined it from the very beginning: exceptional product, knowledgeable service, and a deep connection to the communities it serves.


In 2022, Bett welcomed a new business partner to help carry the Windsor Meats legacy forward — ensuring the same care, quality, and experience continues for generations to come. Today, Windsor Meats is proud to serve families across Richmond, Vancouver, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver. And while 80 years is an incredible number, what matters most are the moments behind it.


That’s 80 years of Sunday night dinners. 80 years of weekend barbecues. 80 years of holidays, celebrations, and intimate meals at home. 


So many of these meat-time moments pass without words because when the food is exceptional, conversation pauses. And sometimes, that silence is the greatest compliment of all.


To say thank-you to the communities who have made this journey possible, Windsor Meats is introducing a Monthly Customer Appreciation Day beginning February 3, 2026. On the first Tuesday of every month, customers will receive 15% off everything in store, from premium local cuts of meat and handcrafted charcuterie to gourmet pantry items and ready-made meals.
